Summer in Cashiers has a way of announcing itself long before the calendar does.

The light lingers a little longer, the breezes soften, and by early June, The Village Green begins to hum with the unmistakable energy of Groovin’ on the Green – the community’s beloved free concert series that turns Friday evenings into a celebration of music, neighbors, and the easy joy of being together outdoors.

This year’s June lineup brings two standout performances to the Commons Lawn, each offering its own flavor of rhythm, nostalgia, and mountain summer magic.

June 12 – The Deep Shallow Band

The season’s first June concert features The Deep Shallow Band, a group known for its rich blend of rock, soul, and blues-infused Americana. Their sound is warm and full-bodied – the kind of music that settles in your chest and invites you to sway along without thinking. With tight musicianship and a setlist that moves comfortably between familiar classics and fresh originals, The Deep Shallow Band brings a generous, big-hearted energy to the stage.

It’s the perfect soundtrack for a June evening when the air is soft, the fireflies are rising, and the Plateau feels like the center of summer itself.

June 26 – The Wobblers

Two weeks later, The Wobblers take the stage with a sound that’s equal parts groove, grit, and good-natured fun. Known for their horn driven arrangements and dance ready rhythms, The Wobblers deliver a show that feels like a party from the first downbeat. Their blend of funk, R&B, and vintage soul brings an irresistible momentum – the kind that gets kids dancing on the lawn, couples swaying under the trees, and everyone else tapping a foot whether they meant to or not. It’s a joyful, high-energy close to June’s offerings and a reminder of why Groovin’ on the Green has become one of the Plateau’s most cherished traditions.

As always, concerts begin at 6:00 P.M., and the spirit is come as you are: bring a chair, bring a blanket, bring a picnic – or enjoy the local food and beverage vendors who set up for each show. Dogs are welcome as long as they stay leashed, and families will find plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the evening.

These concerts are staged whether it’s raining or the sun is setting on a glorious June day. In fact, this writer can testify to the unalloyed delight of dancing in an unexpected June downpour.

The Village Green’s commitment to keeping these concerts free and open to all remains at the heart of the series, supported by community donations and the generosity of local sponsors.

June’s concerts offer just two dates – but they’re packed with the kind of music, camaraderie, and small town magic that define summer on the Plateau. And as always, when the music starts, Cashiers feels exactly like home.
