Mike Kinnebrew doesn’t just perform at the Orchard Sessions — he helps set their tone.

And on Thursday, April 23, he returns to The Farm at Old Edwards to open the 2026 season of the beloved series, bringing with him new music, familiar collaborators, and the quiet assurance of someone who knows exactly how this particular evening is meant to unfold.

Kinnebrew has become one of the Sessions’ most reliable draws. He writes and performs in the contemporary singer-songwriter tradition, with narrative-driven songs rooted in folk and Americana, with melodies that favor emotional clarity over showmanship. It is music designed for listening rather than background noise, which may explain why the Highlands audience suits him so well. These shows, he says, matter precisely because they are not the largest audience size on his calendar. Here, songs “land differently.”

A full season has passed since his last appearance here, and the intervening months were anything but idle. Kinnebrew shared the stage at Nashville’s Third and Lindsley with acclaimed writers Tony Arata and Kim Richey, debuted at both the Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival and the South Florida Folk Festival, and returned to the storied Bluebird Café for the third time – all three shows sold out. For any songwriter, that venue carries near-mythic weight; returning to it repeatedly suggests something more enduring than a lucky break.

April’s performance will offer a preview of new material, including a forthcoming single: a cover of Jackson Browne’s “These Days.” In a moment that feels almost too fitting to invent, Browne himself discovered the recording and shared it on social media – the sort of endorsement that carries quiet but unmistakable weight.

For April 23, Kinnebrew is bringing company. His wife Lindsay returns to the stage alongside him, joined by Landon Fishburne on guitar and Ca’Ron Gordon on percussion – both standouts from the recent Fireside at the Farm.

“There’s a chemistry between us that really turns the night into something more than just an acoustic set,” he says. “It’s shaping up to feel less like a concert and more like a gathering — which is exactly what I love about playing in Highlands.”

That, in a phrase, is the Orchard Sessions. Expect stories, familiar favorites, new music, and the occasional surprise, all delivered with the understated warmth that has made Kinnebrew a cornerstone of this series.

All Orchard Sessions run from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and are open to the public. Cover is $25 for Old Edwards Inn and Half-Mile Farm guests and members, $50 for the public.
