Dim lighting, calming music, soft sweet aromas. You don’t need to do anything – just lie back and feel the tension slowly leave your body. Problems stay outside the spa room, while headaches and anxious thoughts dissolve into the warm streams of water. Your only task is to enjoy it.
That feeling is exactly why people fall in love with head spa treatments. Japanese-inspired head spa services have become one of the biggest wellness trends in recent years. Now, the experience has arrived in Cashiers at Tarah’s Beauty Bar.
The slightly ticklish movements of the specialist’s hands gradually ease clients into a state of near-meditative calm. People choose head spa treatments not only for the visible benefits to the hair and scalp, but for the feeling itself – that pleasant tingling sensation and wave of goosebumps that’s difficult to put into words.
The treatment begins with a scalp analysis. Using a trichology camera with a magnified lens, the specialist carefully examines the scalp. This helps personalize the treatment and can sometimes reveal issues a person may not have noticed on their own.
“I have found a couple of suspicious-looking moles on the back of people’s heads and things such as that,” said Chloe Fowler, the newest specialist at Tarah’s Beauty Bar, who introduced the head spa service to Cashiers.
“We are in a pretty resort area up here in Cashiers and nobody was offering that yet. So I wanted to be the first one to offer head spa services,” shared the owner Tarah Grillo.

After the analysis, the treatment moves into deep scalp cleansing, steaming, an extended massage, and hydrating hair care. The experience concludes with a blow dry.
Chloe explained that after the treatment, clients often notice a more hydrated and balanced scalp, less irritation, and over time, stronger, shinier hair thanks to improved circulation and a healthier scalp condition.
Tarah’s Beauty Bar stands out for its holistic approach, while also offering more medically advanced treatments among its services. According to Tarah, the salon’s priority is making sure clients feel safe and confident that they are receiving thoughtful, high-quality care. “We do things very safely with your skin health in mind,” she said.
The salon’s specialists continuously train and refine their skills. The cosmetic products used at Tarah’s Beauty Bar are selected with particular care by the owner herself. “I only want to offer my clients the best,” Tarah emphasized.
For Chloe, people are also the most important part of the job. “I have wonderful people that come see me,” she said. “I grew up in Cashiers, so I really wanted to give back to the community in my own way.”
For anyone looking for a way to “take a vacation” in the middle of the workweek, Tarah’s Beauty Bar is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. at 287 Laurel Knob Road in Cashiers.
