Spend a few minutes outside on an early September morning on the Plateau, and you’ll notice something has changed. The air is cooler. The light is softer. The rush of summer begins to fade, and the mountains seem to settle into a quieter pace.

Nature has a rhythm. Our health should too.

We often think healthy people have more discipline than everyone else. More often, they simply have better rhythms. They move their bodies regularly, eat nourishing meals most of the time, keep consistent sleep schedules, and spend time outdoors. These aren’t dramatic acts of willpower. They are patterns repeated often enough to become part of daily life.

That’s why I believe September may be the easiest month of the year to improve your health. Unlike January, it doesn’t ask you to reinvent yourself. It simply invites you to settle into routines that feel natural. Cooler mornings make a walk more inviting. Comfortable afternoons encourage a hike. Shorter days remind us to slow down and prepare for restful sleep.

This month don’t focus on changing everything. Instead, choose two or three healthy rhythms you can carry into the fall. A morning walk. Two strength workouts each week. A consistent bedtime. Small behaviors, repeated consistently, have a way of shaping not only our health but also how we experience each day.

The mountains around us remind us that every season has its rhythm. September is an invitation to establish yours. The habits you begin today can carry you through the holidays and well into the year ahead.

Reap what you sow.
