As the curtain falls on Mountain Theatre Company’s 88th season, the company is celebrating a summer filled with music, movement, and unforgettable performances, and enthusiastic audiences that once again proved just how much professional theatre means to the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau.
The summer began with Dancin’ in the Street, a world-premiere production that brought the sounds and spirit of disco, folk, and the music of a generation to the Highlands Performing Arts Center. From the moment the first note played, audiences were on their feet, singing, dancing, and celebrating together. The production quickly became a standout in MTC’s long history, ultimately ranking as the sixth highest-attended production in the company’s 88 years. More than simply a musical, Dancin’ in the Street created an experience that extended beyond the stage, bringing audiences together through the universal language of music and setting an exciting tone for the season ahead.
Mountain Theatre Company followed that success with SHOWSTOPPERS!, a fast-paced, 90-minute multimedia celebration of the songs and moments audiences never forget. Taking audiences on a journey through Broadway and Hollywood, the production showcased powerhouse vocals, energetic choreography, iconic musical numbers, and plenty of surprises along the way. With familiar favorites and new memories being made each night, SHOWSTOPPERS! proved to be the perfect finale to a summer season built around celebration. Audiences of all ages filled the theatre, many returning for a second – or even a third – performance, while the show’s high-energy finale sent patrons out of the theatre singing and smiling.
Together, Dancin’ in the Street and SHOWSTOPPERS! welcomed audiences from across the region and beyond, creating another summer of shared experiences that will remain part of MTC’s story for years to come.
