Wit’s End has been part of the fabric of Highlands since 1940, when Mrs. Oliver Earle Young Sr. opened what is now the oldest shop on Main Street.
Passed to her son Earle and his wife Mary Lu in the 1950s, the store is now in its third and fourth generations, with daughter-in-law Susie Young at the helm and her daughter Caroline Young Blaylock also an integral part.
What began as a seasonal shop for gifts and home accessories has evolved into a year-round destination for beautifully made women’s clothing with an emphasis on enduring style rather than passing trends. Look for Kinross Cashmere, Tyler Boe, Minnie Rose, Saint James, Oliphant, Elizabeth James and enewton designs among a thoughtfully edited mix of contemporary classics.
Perhaps most telling are the customers who return with daughters and granddaughters.
“So many of our customers have memories of shopping here with family,” Susie says. For them, Wit’s End is part of their Highlands tradition.
