The Dilly Deli at 8879 Rosman Highway in Rosman is the kind of colorful, cheerful little place that seems to beckon you to pull in and take a look. Maybe it’s the bright colors, the whimsical angel-wing mural, or simply the welcoming feeling that surrounds the place. This family-owned business has truly put the “deli” in delicious.
Maggie Matthews and Jim Hunt opened The Dilly Deli in May 2024 in the remodeled building that once housed the feed storage room of Pat Lance’s General Store. They were soon joined by their daughter, Alicia.
Their first season was interrupted by the devastation of Hurricane Helene in September, but rather than let the setback define them, the family rolled up their sleeves and got to work. They did what they do best- building community, helping their neighbors, and supplying food to local community centers during the recovery efforts.
Today, community, friendliness, and good, fresh food remain at the heart of The Dilly Deli.
Many customers have become regulars, stopping several times a week for their favorite breakfast or lunch. There’s something especially appealing about a place where you’re greeted with a smile and the food is prepared fresh.
Breakfast offerings include hearty biscuits, frittatas, and fresh yogurt parfaits.
At lunchtime, you’ll find a soup of the day, salads, and a tempting selection of sandwiches. And, oh, those sandwiches – mile-high Reubens, generously filled subs, traditional deli favorites, and delicious clubs. One of the most popular is the California Dreamin’, piled high with turkey, Swiss, avocado, bacon, tomato, sprouts, pepperoncini, and mayo on wheat.
For now, The Dilly Deli is takeout-only, but that is about to change. Jim and his son, Corey, are hard at work constructing a riverside deck, complete with customer seating and restrooms.
Soon, you’ll be able to enjoy a fresh meal while watching and listening to the French Broad River flowing by.
Maggie and Alicia are the friendly faces behind the counter these days, and they’re constantly adding new choices to the menu, including healthy and vegetarian options. They’re also planning to add DoorDash, making it even easier to enjoy their fresh food.
The Dilly Deli is an easy and delicious stop for locals, hikers, river-goers, and anyone simply looking for a friendly place to grab a really good meal.
With continued growth and the addition of the riverside deck, The Dilly Deli plans to expand its hours in the future, giving customers even more opportunities to enjoy their fresh-made offerings.
