Becoming an Angel

Through the Angel Tree Project, local churches are working together to bring Christmas joy to children and families in need. Sponsors can help by providing gifts, supplies, or financial support.

There are angels everywhere. Some are mysterious; some are invisible; some are right next to us, and we don’t even know it.

When you help make Christmas real for kids this year, you’ll be joining the ranks of angels. Children and youth representatives from nine local churches formed a local coalition called City on a Hill to aid those in need. In 2020, the churches developed two projects: the Backpack Project, filled with school supplies and clothing, and the Angel Tree Project, which assists families with gifts for their children.

City on the Hill is a reference to Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world, like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” Its mission is to bring God’s grace and love to our community’s children, youth, and families.

Here’s how you can be angelic. Supporters who can contribute up to $150 are encouraged to sponsor a child through the Angel Tree Project. If you like to shop, pick up an Angel Tree form with the child’s request for one outfit, underwear, socks, either a coat or a pair of shoes, a large toy, and a small toy. Their preferences for color, style, and special needs will be listed.

You are welcome to pair up with a donor pal, going in together on the $150. Or, if shopping isn’t your thing, donate money. Or purchase gift wrap, new toys, stockings, stocking stuffers, stocking candy, or something else required.

Put November 29 on your calendar. That’s three days after Thanksgiving. Plan on purchasing during Black Friday to make more for your bucks – and for the kids.

The City on a Hill members thank you and ask you to partner with them because “we are the light of the world.”
