Rotary Club of Highlands Holds 15th Annual Twilight 5K Race

Last Saturday, the Rotary Club of Highlands under the leadership of Race Director Derek Taylor held the 15th Annual Twilight 5K Race. The event, which has become a summer staple for Highlanders and runners who come here from many places for this extremely well-managed race, was again a major success. 295 individuals signed up to participate, and the only partner who refused to cooperate was the weather. The rain, which was torrential for 99% of the race, seemed to be timed exactly to the starter’s gun. Because rain was expected, only 219 runners actually ran….and finished the race, which included some highly competitive “stroller moms.”

This year’s event raised funds for the Highlands Community Child Development Center, The HCCDC, raising over $33,500.

Like so many of the great events that fly under the Rotary Club of Highlands banner, the Rotarians owe a great thank you to the Town of Highlands and Mayor Pat Taylor, the Highlands police under the leadership of Andrea (Sissy Holland), the great folks at the Highlands Recreation and Recreation Park Director Lester Norris, Race Director Derek Taylor, Bill Grubb, the 2026 Race Director, and all the Rotary volunteers who helped stop traffic and handed out cups of water along the way.

The race was followed by some great music from ABC Combo. That created a perfect ending to a wonderful afternoon.
