As Mountain Theatre Company reflects on the close of our 2025 season, we are filled with gratitude, pride and an overwhelming sense of forward momentum. This year brought new artistic challenges, long-awaited returns, and a continued commitment to creating unforgettable theatrical experiences for the Highlands community and beyond.
This season opened with a major first for MTC: repertory productions. The Marvelous Wonderettes and Forever Plaid alternated performances all summer long, offering audiences two nostalgic, harmony-rich favorites in rotation.
Though taking on a repertory schedule was a bold new step for the company, the response from patrons proved it to be a powerful one. The intimate charm of Wonderettes paired beautifully with the smooth vocals of Plaid, and many theatregoers found themselves returning multiple times to experience both shows in conversation with each other. Presenting these productions in rep challenged our performers, delighted our fans, and marked an important artistic milestone for MTC.

One of the most meaningful moments of the year came with the long-awaited return of The Burnt Part Boys, a production postponed in 2024 due to Hurricane Helene. Bringing this show to the stage at last was not only a triumph of perseverance but a reflection of the resilience of their staff, artists, and patrons. The story’s emotional depth and Appalachian setting resonated deeply with audiences and made it even more poignant by the wait endured.
Rounding out the year was a refreshed take on the annual holiday tradition, Spirit of the Season. This year’s edition celebrated familiar warmth while introducing new staging, arrangements, and storytelling elements. The result was a joyful, polished production that honored its history while offering audiences something dazzlingly new. It was a vibrant reminder of how beloved traditions can continue to grow.
As a nonprofit organization, MTC thrives because of the generosity, enthusiasm and belief of their patrons. Every ticket purchased, every donation made, and every word of encouragement fuels the work on stage and behind the scenes. This season — ambitious heartfelt, and transformative-was made possible by you. And now, with excitement building, Mountain Theatre Company looks ahead. The 2026 Season promises to be one of the most dynamic yet, filled with world premiere productions, returning favorites, and experiences designed to surprise and inspire.
