Dining for a Cause

Changes are in the air this Fall, but one thing that remains constant at Lakeside are their “Evenings at Lakeside.” The restaurant sets aside Wednesday nights for area non-profits to raise money and awareness for their causes. Throughout this season many local nonprofits, including the International Friendship Center, Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival, Gordon Center, and the Scaly Mountain Women’s Club, have taken advantage of these evenings as a festive way to raise money and awareness for their organizations.
Dates in September and October are still available, and interested non-profits should contact Lakeside at (828) 526-9419 to select an available date. Lakeside will donate 15 percent of the non-profit’s guest checks that evening to the non-profit. It is up to each organization and their board members to market their evening. Always remember when making reservations that you need to mention that you are there to support your chosen non-profit.
September is here, and Lakeside Restaurant is making their transition to their more robust fall menu.
First up, and always tasty, are their always innovative fall cocktails. This year you won’t want to miss their “Manhattan Project” cocktails. These are barrel-aged Manhattan cocktails. The first batch features Kentucky bourbon, sweet vermouth, and angostura bitters. The second batch will utilize rye whiskey, both sweet and dry vermouth, and bitters. These cocktails will be aged five liters at a time in an American White Oak Barrel, and each batch will take three to five weeks to age to perfection. Through oxidation and extraction, the barrel aging process gives the cocktail a much smoother taste and draws out nutty, earthy, and fruity tones in flavor and aroma.
