It’s easy to overlook El Manzanillo Mexican Restaurant. It’s snug in the middle of a nondescript plaza on the edges of Cashiers.
But there’s a reason this place is thriving, and it’s spelled out on the menu: “Authentic Mexican Food.”
El Manzanillo is the real deal, a family-run Mexican restaurant that’s won a passionate local following for its authentic menu. That designation of “passionate local following” includes passionate local Hispanics, always a good sign for authenticity.
In contrast to the rather ordinary facade, the interior is bright and inviting. The kitchen turns out a dizzying selection of Mexican favorites (the menu is enormous) and the heat factor can be adjusted for personal tastes. There are vegan options and a kids’ menu, so everyone is covered.
You can wash it all down with a cold cerveza or selection from the bar, although soft drinks also make a good match for the food choices.
It’s all served up with a smile, and the staff is relentlessly cheerful.
