It’s easy to imagine Samuel Kelsey and Clinton C. Hutchinson, Highlands’ founders, being delighted by what their town has become—especially with a gem like Four65 Woodfire Bistro + Bar on Main Street.

Highlands was always meant to be a crossroads, and at Four65, you’ll find the culinary influences of Chicago, Savannah, New Orleans, and New York all mingling together. Whether you call it Old World, Mediterranean, or mountain high class, you’ll find comfort and sustenance here, served with genuine warmth.

We visited Four65 for a leisurely late autumn lunch, having heard that just a few nights before, the line stretched down Main Street!

Since they don’t take reservations, we planned for a late afternoon meal – and it was perfect. The atmosphere was inviting and relaxed, with friendly waitstaff, guests chatting at the bar, sports playing softly on TV, and tables filling and emptying in a gentle rhythm. Locals, first-timers, repeat visitors, and us – everyone seemed to be enjoying the simple pleasure of breaking bread together.

We came to enjoy ourselves, and we did! I chose all my favorites, and nothing disappointed.

My Cherrywood Farm Greek Salad was crisp, clean, and bursting with flavor. The Neapolitan-style pizza was a delight – thinly sliced pepperoni atop a delicate sauce and a tummy-pleasing crust. The combination of salad and pizza was as harmonious as Highlands itself – some things are just meant to belong together.

I finished my meal with a piping hot cappuccino and a scrumptious berry shortcake. Desserts are hard to describe, but this one was unforgettable: little berries swimming in compote, crowning an olive oil cake, all topped with whipped cream infused with vanilla bean. It’s a memory I’ll savor for a long time.

My husband enjoyed every bite of his meal, and together we soaked in the ambiance that makes Highlands special. There’s a certain charm at Four65 that makes you feel as if Cary Grant or Grace Kelly might stroll in at any moment, looking for a bite between takes of a classic film. That feeling starts as you drive by, grows as you walk past, and fully embraces you when you step inside and realize the blessings about to be bestowed upon you.

I must mention the service, which was truly exceptional. Our server — let’s call him “M” — was professional, courteous, prompt, and kind. When we asked about his background, he shared that he was from Jamaica and spoke of his family and friends recovering from a recent hurricane. The moment he mentioned “prayer,” I knew our experience would be not just pleasant, but spiritually meaningful. I found a bit of divinity in a stranger named “M,” who served us a wonderful meal with the utmost respect.

In turn, I’ll remember “M” and our dining experience at Four65 Woodfire Bistro + Bar forever.

In Highlands, it’s not just about the food or the scenery — it’s about the people, the moments, and the memories made. Four65 embodies all of that, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience.
