The Release the Rosé Wine Dinner at the Farm at Old Edwards on April 14 is a welcome harbinger of spring, and one you won’t want to miss.
There are many misconceptions about the much-maligned wine and you’ll receive a comprehensive education when Advanced Sommelier Nick Demos takes the floor. Don’t worry, there will be no tests, just lots of outstanding food, wines, and live music.
What will you find at the dinner? Well, it won’t be pink André or that dreaded sugary white zin of the 1970s. Many different types of rosés are being made worldwide, and the taste really depends on the wine’s country of origin. The variety of shades comes from the length of time the wines are in contact with red grape skins.
Just like its red or white counterparts, rosés are more versatile than you may think. You can use them in cocktails and drink them with barbecue or salad. There are no rules! The resurgence in its popularity here in the US began roughly five years ago, and in France it’s believed that sales of rosés surpass that of red or white.
Sommelier Nick Demos will be present to discuss the different pairings and educate diners on the joys of rosés. Nick, a native of Western North Carolina, has been immersed in wine culture since an early age. His grandfather opened the very first wine shop in downtown Asheville, North Carolina, just after prohibition. In July of 2016, Mr. Demos passed the ever-challenging Advanced Sommelier exam through the Court of Master Sommeliers. He is currently pursuing his studies as a candidate for the Master Sommelier diploma.
April is the ideal time for the spring releases and Old Edwards is pairing these luscious wines with the culinary creations of Madison’s chefs.
