Krysti and Thomas Henderson have always loved being in the kitchen, though they never imagined themselves full-time bakers.
But with a gift for hospitality and a passion for comfort food, the pair have taken what was once a simple cottage industry to a small-batch baking enterprise that is making bellies full and hearts happy across the Southeast. From humble beginnings in a home kitchen, The Chocolate Heaven Company has grown into almost 3000-square-feet of chocolate, butter, and a lot of love (and more butter).
A decadent, flourless (yes, gluten-free) chocolate indulgence, Chocolate Heaven has been the company’s signature product since 2000. Nowadays, some new flavors have been brought to the table. With almost a pound of bananas in each loaf, the newly famous Banana Bread is now a Southern staple, available in Classic, Chocolate Chip, and Bourbon Walnut.
If a cinnamon-y, streusel-y treat is what you’re after, Coffee Cake is your happytown. Maybe a three-layer Cream Cheese Pound Cake, drenched in buttery, brown sugar glaze calls your name, then the Southern Caramel Cake is what you need. And that’s not all. Let your taste buds ruminate on thoughts of specialty cakes like Italian Cream, Red Velvet, Coconut, Carrot Spice, and more as the bakers’ mood strikes.
Thomas sums up the company’s backstory in one phrase, “Make God laugh, tell Him your plans.” In that tradition, with a whole lot of fun and some shift-on-the-fly, the latest chapter in Chocolate Heaven’s story is a cozy little nook they’re calling Cake Bar.
