A Legacy of Reading

Memorial gifts honoring Dolly Parton can help bring free books to nearly 1,000 local children through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Donations made through The Literacy & Learning Center ensure every dollar stays local, fostering early literacy and a lifelong love of reading.

dolly-with-kids-tagline-landscapeThe community is deeply saddened by the passing of Dolly Parton, whose extraordinary heart, legendary generosity, and visionary spirit touched millions of lives worldwide.

While her contributions to music are legendary, her profound commitment to childhood literacy through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library remains one of her most enduring and transformative legacies.

Inspired by her father, Dolly believed that the ability to read was the foundation for a child’s success, confidence, and imagination. When individuals and families honor a loved one through memorial contributions to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, their kindness helps carry that vision forward, fostering a lifelong love of reading during children’s most critical developmental years.

As the official Macon County affiliate for the Imagination Library, The Literacy & Learning Center plays a direct role in bringing this mission home. Approximately 1,000 children are enrolled in the program, and the Center invests about $30,000 annually to cover participation costs, ensuring families receive books at no charge. Through local support, age-appropriate, high-quality books arrive in children’s mailboxes every month.

By removing financial barriers to early learning resources, the program encourages daily family reading, nurtures a love of books, and helps prepare young learners for success in Pre-K and elementary school.

For those wishing to direct a memorial gift or personal contribution specifically to benefit children across the area, The Literacy & Learning Center offers a way to keep those funds local. Donations made directly to the Center support early literacy initiatives and place books in the hands of young readers throughout Macon County.
