Mountaintop Rotary is bringing the fun and energy of pickleball back to the Highlands‑Cashiers Plateau with its 3rd Annual Highlands Pickleball on the Plateau tournament, set for September 25–27 at the Highlands Recreation Park.

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with players of all ages taking part. Spectators can expect to see both spry youngsters and seasoned veterans showing off their skills, all while helping raise money for community youth programs. Last year, competitors traveled from as far away as Florida, Alabama, and Virginia, and organizers expect an expanded field of 150 to 175 entrants this year.

Camaraderie, fun, and friendly competition will keep the energy high throughout the weekend. It will not be hard to imagine the familiar pop of paddles meeting balls and the squeak of sneakers as players hustle across the courts for the perfect shot.

On Friday, September 25, the tournament opens with an afternoon youth event, giving young players from across the Plateau and beyond a chance to join the fun. Mountaintop Rotary event chair Dr. Sue Aery is especially excited about this new addition, which encourages more young people to get involved in this lively and growing sport.

On Saturday, September 26, men’s and women’s round-robin play begins at 8:00 A.M. and continues until all matches are complete. The tournament wraps up Sunday, September 27, with mixed doubles round- robin play. Each division is organized by skill level, from beginner to advanced.

Mountaintop Rotary encourages the entire community to come out and enjoy the weekend. Food trucks will be on hand, making it easy to watch a little pickleball, enjoy a picnic at the park, and take in a day filled with community spirit, athleticism, and pure pickleball fun. Community members and businesses have also supported this important cause by becoming event sponsors or donating raffle prizes.

Mountaintop Rotary raises money throughout the year to support its charitable work, and every dollar raised through this event benefits local youth programs. In past years, the club has supported the Highlands School Fund, the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau, PAC Educational Theatre, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cashiers‑Highlands, scholarships for local high schoolers, Shop with a Cop, Gordon Youth Center, The Kids Place, and more.

Enjoy a beautiful autumn weekend, join the pickleball craze, and plan to compete or cheer from the sidelines while supporting area youth. For more information or to register, visit Mountaintop Rotary’s Facebook page or the Facebook page for Highlands Pickleball on the Plateau.
