Stage4Hope, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, invites anyone navigating cancer, serious illness, caregiving, grief, or another life-changing season to attend When Life Changes Everything, You Don’t Have to Carry It Alone, its first Highlands community retreat, on Saturday, November 7, from 10:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. at Coleman Hall at the First Presbyterian Church of Highlands. Attendance is free, and lunch will be provided. The retreat is designed as a restorative day of hope, strength, and connection for those facing life’s most difficult challenges.

Open to anyone seeking encouragement and support during a season of change, the retreat will provide an opportunity to pause, reflect, reconnect, and find renewed strength. Through guided conversations, personal reflection, and shared experience, participants will gain practical tools for navigating uncertainty while building meaningful connections with others facing similar challenges. The program is rooted in the belief that no one should have to walk through life’s hardest seasons alone.

The retreat will be facilitated by Dr. Sharon May, therapist, author, and founder of the Safe Haven Relationship Center, whose work focuses on emotional wellbeing and healthy relationships, and Dr. Sylvia Hart Frejd, author, international speaker, and National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach. Frejd’s work helps individuals navigate life transitions, stress, grief, loss, relationships, and spiritual growth.

Together, May and Frejd will guide participants through a day designed to inspire resilience, encourage healing, and offer practical resources for moving forward with greater confidence and hope.

The retreat is presented by Stage4Hope, founded by Stacy Carter after her own cancer diagnosis in 2023 revealed the many challenges patients and caregivers face beyond medical treatment. Navigating treatment opened her eyes to the financial, emotional, and logistical burdens that often accompany a cancer diagnosis and inspired her to create an organization dedicated to helping others find support when they need it most.

Today, Stage4Hope helps people with advanced-stage cancer access leading treatment centers and clinical trials while providing financial and emotional support for patients and families. In one recent month alone, the nonprofit provided 40 transportation grants, illustrating the significant need that exists within the cancer community.

When Life Changes Everything, You Don’t Have to Carry It Alone offers the community an opportunity to experience that same spirit of support firsthand while finding encouragement, hope, and connection for whatever challenges lie ahead.
