I can still remember those oysters.

Not just their briny sweetness, but the banter that drifted around the tables at last year’s Oyster and Seafood Fest at The Farm at Old Edwards. Somebody was making the case for oysters harvested from South Carolina’s pluff mud. Across the table, someone else insisted the broad, briny oysters of Louisiana’s St. Bernard Parish and Gulf waters couldn’t be matched. Before long, everyone had a favorite – and a story to go with it. I have a feeling I’ll hear that same lively chatter again when the 8th Annual Oyster and Seafood Fest returns to The Farm on Sunday, September 27.

Oyster enthusiasts don’t simply remember eating oysters – they remember where they came from, who they shared them with, and the stories that unfolded around the growing pile of empty shells. Like wine lovers discussing terroir, they debate estuaries, tides, salinity and provenance, convinced every body of water leaves its own unmistakable signature. Perhaps that’s the enduring appeal of oysters. They’ve always been as much about gathering as they are about eating.

That spirit is precisely what makes the 8th Annual Oyster and Seafood Fest at The Farm at Old Edwards such a memorable evening. The oysters may be what first draws guests to the festival, but it’s the experience that brings many of them back – a celebration of exceptional seafood, accomplished chefs and the easy camaraderie that develops whenever fellow enthusiasts gather around the same table.

Returning favorite Chef Sara Prezioso of Charleston Bay Gourmet brings her Lowcountry seafood expertise back to the mountains. Joining her is Chef Sam Fore of Tuk Tuk Snack Shop, the nationally acclaimed Lexington chef whose cooking blends Southern traditions with the vibrant flavors of her Sri Lankan heritage. Together with the Old Edwards culinary team, they’ll showcase seafood through distinct culinary perspectives, each honoring exceptional ingredients while reflecting the individual style of the chef preparing them.

The evening invites guests to wander among chef stations, sampling pristine oysters alongside an imaginative array of seafood dishes, each thoughtfully prepared and designed to encourage discovery. Live music, handcrafted cocktails and wine complete an evening celebrating exceptional seafood and the pleasures of the table.

And perhaps that’s fitting. Every oyster carries the memory of the waters that shaped it. By the end of the evening, guests will leave with a provenance story of their own. Sometime in the future, another conversation about favorite oysters will begin, and someone around the table will inevitably smile and say, “Well, I remember those oysters we had at The Farm…”
