As autumn arrives on the Highlands‑Cashiers Plateau and the mountains begin to showcase their vibrant fall colors, the Highlands Biological Foundation is preparing for one of its favorite annual traditions: Highlands on the Half‑Shell.
Join them on Sunday, October 4, from 4:00 P.M. until dusk at Valentine Meadow at the Highlands Biological Station (888 Horse Cove Road) for an unforgettable evening of food, fellowship, and philanthropy.
This beloved fundraiser brings a taste of Louisiana to the mountains, with fresh steamed oysters, Cajun‑inspired cuisine, refreshing beverages, and a relaxed outdoor atmosphere surrounded by the beauty of the season.
One of the highlights of Highlands on the Half‑Shell is the remarkable community spirit behind the event. Foundation board members, dedicated volunteers, and local supporters come together to create a welcoming experience for every guest.

Proceeds from Highlands on the Half‑Shell directly support environmental education, scientific research, and community outreach throughout the Highlands‑Cashiers Plateau. Funds raised help sustain operations and programming at the Highlands Nature Center, provide educational opportunities and scholarships for students, and expand programs that connect people of all ages with the rich biodiversity of our mountain ecosystems.
Tickets are $150 per person and include all food and beverages. Attendance is limited, and this event frequently reaches capacity, so early ticket purchases are strongly encouraged when tickets become available on Thursday, September 3.
