We’re nearing the end of another great season here on the Plateau. The temperatures are cooling, the autumn colors are dazzling, and there’s a familiar aroma wafting through the air.
That’s right, it’s chili season and time once again for the 20th annual Chili Cook-off co-hosted by the Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce and Landmark Realty Group, held this year on October 15, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Lewis Hall at The Village Green.
This beloved event is the perfect finale to the Cashiers Business After Hours series, bringing the entire community together for one last hurrah before the season winds down. Expect plenty of heat, lots of heart, friendly competition, and, of course, a healthy dose of community cheer.
So grab your friends, fellow business owners, neighbors, and anyone else who appreciates a good bowl of chili, and join them for an evening of culinary delights, cold beverages, and great camaraderie.
Best of all, it’s free and it’s fun!
This year, 10 community cooks and four professional chefs will battle it out for bragging rights and the coveted Best in Show, Judges’ Choice, and Community Choice awards. Bringing their expert palates to the judging table are Christopher Scott, General Manager of Park on Main; Luke Callaghan, General Manager of High Hampton Inn; and Scott Alderson, owner of Native Prime Provisions.
Expect to enjoy chili and cornbread recipes of every kind and nature from mild to knock-your-socks-off fiery. Some will be so subtle that you will linger over your sample a bit longer than normal trying to identify that one unique ingredient. Others may have you rushing to the drink stations, located in the covered area beside Lewis Hall, for a cooling beverage and a quick break before moving on to the next sample.
Be sure to chat with the cooks, too. You never know when someone might reveal a secret ingredient or cooking trick that takes your own chili game to the next level this winter.
