A new pollinator garden, created in memory of Thomas Taulbee, is taking root beside the Cashiers Chamber of Commerce—honoring his legacy of kindness, community, and conservation while building a vibrant habitat that will bloom for generations.
Beginning April 2, the Highlands Nature Center opens for a new season of hands‑on discovery, from the BioBlitz Boogy! in April to Herpetology Season in May, with programs, trails, and camps inviting visitors of all ages to explore the area’s biodiversity.
Spring’s fleeting wildflowers are emerging across our forests, offering a brief, brilliant reminder of the rich biodiversity the Highlands‑Cashiers Land Trust works to protect.
As April wavers between seasons, the forest floor briefly comes alive with spring ephemerals—fleeting wildflowers that bloom in a short window of light before disappearing underground once more.

The Bascom's Fiber Club is made up of an enthusiastic community of fiber artists who come together weekly to share patterns and stories at The Bascom. Meetings take place on the Terrace.
Over the decades, The Church of the Good Shepherd’s annual Bazaar has earned a regional reputation. It’s only natural that it’s mushroomed into the year-round Bazaar Barn, 118 US Hwy 64 West (at Shoppes on the Green).
Known as the “Cheers” of Bookstores, the Bookworm in Highlands is affiliated with the Hudson Library: all books are donated; all staff are volunteers; and all funds go to help support the library. More than a retail store, we are a community service offering carefully sorted donated books to provide the best quality at a used bookstore price.
